Wind Chime Seating
Brief:
Design seating for downtown San Jose in Fountain Alley.
Concept Exploration
We made concepts for the space in Fountain Alley, San Jose. At first they weren’t just seating concepts, but also gardens, parklets, lighting, and mobile solar hubs. We later chose to do seating for our project.
San Jose Community Co-Design Workshop
For the Community Workshop, San Jose community members were able to design what they wanted to see be put into Fountain Alley. We showed them our sketches to see what they thought and then let them design what they wanted. Our group of participants came up with a serpentine/raised bench seating that was made up of pipes that would act as wind chimes.
Once we were finished listening to the communities and ideas, we took their feedback/ideas and implemented them into our final design.
Seating Exploration
These 5 concepts were chosen to move forward with full scale mock ups.
Mock Ups
We made 5 full scale mock ups to help figure out our final direction.
Our final direction was the wind chime swings. We chose this concept because it matched the feedback/ideas from the community workshop the closest.
Making The Model
Once we had our final design, it was time to start making it.
Our group working on the full scale prototype.
We designed our model for disassembly. We had to be able to move our model outdoors for the final presentation.
